How much space and bandwidth does a website need?

If you have a small website without much traffic, you will not need much bandwidth or space.

Your needs in this case can be met with 10 to 100 MB of disk space and 1 to 10 GB of data transfer per month.  (You need to be keenly aware that movie and sound files will eat up a lot of disk space and bandwidth.)  If your website is text-based, you do not need to worry about this technical stuff - text takes up almost no space at all - not even really big font sizes!  For this type of website we suggest the USH-X which will coverments for a very low fee.

If your aim is to sell something online, look for a provider who can give you commercial web solutions such as Shopping Cart Software or a secure online payment system, which we discussed in another Knowledgebase article.  If this is your case, then it is a good idea to choose a lot of web space with a high bandwidth allowance.

If you plan to be in this category, it is advisable to have a plan with 50 MB of disk space or more.  Your bandwidth allowance will actually depend on how many visitors you're expecting and how well you promote your web site.  5 to 30 GB are usually sufficient for most websites although it could be more.  For this type of website, we recommend the standard package called USH-I.  For a small monthy fee, it will give you better performance than the USH-X, and you will have a more flexible host.

In case you have an office that works all business hours with email, you need to do a small calculation: If you have 30 email accounts and you want each account to have at least 500MB of space, you need to find something that will have at least 15GB of space available.  This is in case you have an accumulation of email during vacation or holidays.  This is where USH-II would be perfect for you because it is a great plan with high storage capacity.  At the same time, it is the perfect solution due to availability and performance.

What if you have a medium office with a website and a database that has its own operations and your business really needs the best performance that shared hosting can offer?  Well, that's where USH-III comes in.  It is also known as "the choosen" due to the fact that it is our most popular package for companies that take business seriously.

Conclusion:

All the plans at abdicar.com in the Shared Hosting line are unmetered, but you need keep in mind that you will get what you are paying for. We don't limit any feature, because we don't belive in limits, but if your business is a serious matter to you, we suggest you think about options other than USH-I.  If you want to have peace of mind about performance and the type of people you will share your server capacity with, then "the chosen" is the right plan for you and your business.
